First Assistant Secretary Joint Systems @ Department of Defence, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group
Ivan Zlabur is the First Assistant Secretary Joint Systems within Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG). In this role he oversees the acquisition, integration and sustainment of Australian Defence Force joint systems covering communications, command and control, deployable networks, electronic warfare and wide area surveillance systems, guided weapons and munitions.
Ivan has over 37 years of experience working in the Defence sector. He served in the Royal Australian Air Force from 1980 to 2000 as a technician and engineering officer in various operational and support units, and in the delivery of major Defence capital equipment projects. For over six years (2000 to 2006) Ivan worked in industry as an executive and engineering consultant within an Australian Defence SME.
Ivan jointed the Australian Public Service in October 2006 and has served in a range of positions within CASG and its predecessor the Defence Materiel Organisation, including as Director General Satellites and Tactical Interoperability and Assistant Secretary Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Electronic Warfare.
Ivan holds a Bachelor of Communications Engineering (First-Class Honours) degree, Masters of Science (Military Electronic Systems Engineering) and a Graduate Diploma of Management (Technology Management). He is a Chartered Professional Engineer, Member of the Australian Institute of Project Manager, and an alumnus of the Australian National Security College, Melbourne Business School and Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 2016, Ivan completed the Harvard Kennedy School’s Senior Managers in Government program.
